When you adopt, you’re not just saving a life—you’re gaining unconditional love and a companion that brings emotional, psychological, and physical benefits. At Peach State Rescue, we embrace the Adopters Welcome approach, created by the Humane Society of the United States. This open, conversation-based philosophy helps us match more pets with loving homes by focusing on compassion, not judgment. Let’s find your perfect match—because every pet deserves a second chance, and every adopter deserves support.
Adopting a pet is an exciting and life-changing experience—and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. We have many wonderful dogs and cats waiting for a second chance in a loving home. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about our adoption process. Explore the sections to learn how to meet your perfect match and give a pet the forever home they deserve.
Adopting a pet is simple! Just follow this step-by-step process outlined here.
If you're looking to adopt a pet, use the category options to narrow your search by species, age, and size. We don’t list breed as a category since we don’t DNA test our dogs—so all are labeled as mixed breed. Instead of focusing on breed, we prioritize matching pets and people based on personality.
Some of our pets are in foster homes which will be notated under their profiles. These pets are fully available for adoption, and their foster families can provide valuable insights into their behavior and personality.
For pets currently living at the rescue, we encourage you to visit as soon as possible to meet them in person.
Please note that we cannot place holds or reserve adoptable pets through online inquiries or any other method—adoptions are first come, first served.
If the pet is in a foster home, please complete an inquiry on our Contact page. After submitting your inquiry, our adoption team will connect you with the pet’s foster parent via email within 72 hours. The foster parent will then reach out to share more about the pet and arrange a time for you to meet.
Next, it’s time to find the right match! Our rescue staff and foster parents are here to help you determine if a pet is a good fit for your family’s lifestyle and needs.
If it’s not the right match, that’s completely okay—adopting a pet is an important decision, and we’re committed to helping you find the one that’s just right.
Once you’ve found your perfect match, you’ll be ready to move on to the final step: completing the adoption!
Once you’ve determined a dog or cat is a good match, or if another catches your eye, navigate to the Adoption Application to begin your adoption inquiry.
If you are submitting an adoption inquiry prior to meeting the pet, please know this is not a hold or reservation, nor does it guarantee your adoption. The adoption inquiry is a simple questionnaire about the adopting parent or family, and allows us to save time once the adoption is ready to be finalized.
The last (and most exciting) step to adopt a pet is to finalize the adoption. The adoption team will approve your inquiry, and then you will receive an email confirmation to sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee.
You can also add a donation during the checkout stage to help the thousands of pets we care for every year. Once the contract is signed and the fee is paid, that’s it!
Congratulations, you’re a pet parent! You may now take your new pet home from the rescue or from the foster parent.
Although meet and greets with resident pets are not required, we encourage you to introduce your pet to your potential adoptee to ensure that the pet is a good fit for your family. Our team members can assist you.
Peach State Rescue reserves the right to deny any application if we feel it’s not the best fit for the pet or adopter. Our priority is the well-being and long-term success of every adoption.

Dogs over 7 years of age ($40)
Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, and given a dewormer and flea/tick prevention at no additional charge.
All cats will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, combo tested for FIV and FeLV and given a dewormer and flea/tick prevention at no additional charge.
Working cats are unsocialized cats who are not household companions and are happiest living outdoors. They help control rodent populations and are safest in areas such as warehouses, barns, and even breweries!
Adopters over 55 years of age may adopt a pet under 7 years of age for $40.

At Peach State Rescue, our mission begins where hope is fading. We primarily focus on saving dogs at risk of euthanasia in overcrowded local shelters—giving them the second chance they deserve. These are loving, adoptable animals who simply ran out of time and space.
In addition to shelter rescues, we also accept pets in urgent need from the community—those who may have no other safe option. Whether they’ve been abandoned, surrendered, or found in vulnerable situations, we’re here to provide care, compassion, and a path to a better life.
Every pet we rescue is a life saved, and every adoption helps us save the next one.
Yes. A Trial Adoption allows you to take a dog or cat home for a 30-day trial period to help you determine if they are the right match for your family.
In most cases, yes! If the pet is currently at the rescue and your application is approved, you can usually take your new pet home the same day. Be sure to bring a leash, collar, or pet carrier depending on the animal.
If the pet is in a foster home, we’ll coordinate a pickup time after your adoption is finalized—this may take a little longer but helps ensure a smooth transition.
Yes, we do allow residents of other states to adopt. All policies to adopt a pet must be followed, including, but not limited to, spay/neuter of the pet, direct counseling with a member of our Adoptions team, in person or virtually, and arranging transportation.
We cannot hold pets or extend placement deadlines if all adoption requirements are not met. More information on our Out of State Adoption Process can be provided upon request.
No. Our pets are adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis and pets cannot be put on hold. Submitting an adoption inquiry online does not place a pet on hold or reserve a pet.
We understand that sometimes things don’t work out the way we expected. We do allow adopters to return adopted pets during business hours, by appointment. We also provide self-rehoming assistance to avoid pets re-entering our rescue and encourage adopters to rehome the pet themselves.
